hacker brain: okay, i have this huawei e3372h-510 usb stick, but on google fi it only links at 2g and thats just unacceptable/insulting in 2025. i should look for guides to see if i can patch firmwares or do a tweak or a hack of some kind, but this is days of research and work

tired old guy brain: ... for 180 bux i can buy the gl.inet spitz 4g router and it'll 'just work' and i dont have to fight anything

@SecurityWriter when i saw google fi doubling their data cap to 100g, it seemed like a no brainer to throw a sim in this cheapshit huawei 4g stick and plunk it in one of my old slates, and use that as my backup isp, and shitcan starlink. but this huawei shitthing will only link at 2g, so im frustrated.

@Viss I’m just looking for a 4/5g connection to the WAN port on my main router. Don’t care if it’s double NAT as I tend to run double NAT with my DMZ anyway.

@SecurityWriter i love them its openwrt under the hood and you can go from babies 1st nat to my insane bullshit, with routing, wireguard tunnels and exposing services on my travel network to my surveillance system at home so i can light up security cams in hotel rooms and have them dual record, to local and to my array over the wg link at home. i have two slate-ax units as my beefmode ones which replaced two older slates. i think theres newer stuff now too!

@Viss what’s the gl.inet stuff like? Not a brand I’m familiar with, but I’m looking for a new secondary WAN given today’s bullshit
