People who use outdoor furniture... when do you have the time or energy to enjoy it?

I have furniture in the backyard all wrapped and covered in a tarp for winter. The last couple of summers, we were so busy and the weather was so uncooperative that we never ended up using any of it (despite spending hours cleaning it all up at the start of summer)

I might get an hour to indulge in a cigar here and there but entertaining guests or just lounging on a summer day seems so far out of reach.

@kamikat Don't the bugs and squirrels torment you while you're out there?

@bloke_zero can you take a nap in it? We have a 2-seater swing from the 80s... suppose it serves the same purpose. Even comes with a shade.

@sand just one word: hammock. Actually, nylon Mexican hammock - you can leave it strung up and whenever the moment strikes - flop!

@kamikat LOL@Every New gadget - I'm the same! Some high-tech, some low-tech, but a lot of effort into stopping bugs from buzzing by my ears when I'm trying to enjoy my yard.

We have an entire set of furniture but it's rare that we can actually use it unless we're entertaining guests. And even then the wildlife has us scurrying back indoors.

@sand oh, and we have a patio table with a fire pit insert, so that definitely extends outdoor time to when the yardwork is done for the year, so it feels like bonus time. Nothing beats a hot drink by a fire when it's just a bit chilly.

@sand Squirrels do not, as I have dogs. Bugs are weather dependent. AND every summer, I try every new gadget that comes out. I usually have to skip most of August but it's warm enough where I live that I can keep eating breakfast outside through mid-to-late October.

@kamikat Covid changed a lot of things! We couldn't enjoy our backyard for the first year because of a family of raccoons that made their home under our deck. Spent $1,000+ to humanely remove them and prevent them from moving back in.

Now in protest of their eviction, they leave piles of 💩 on our deck 🙃

@sand Not gonna lie, COVID is what changed our family's relationship with the outdoor furniture, that led to improvements that led to more use that led to more improvements...
