Early this morning I walked through the old part of my town for an appointment with my health insurer. A sunny spring day & tourists were already strolling in the streets. As I walked past, I saw a woman taking pictures of a front door with elaborate forged metal decoration.
I wasn't quick enough to tell her what spontaneously crossed my mind: "Thank you for paying such close attention to this detail of my city." And it occurred to me that the tourists' gaze makes me re-see my own city. So not only to do tourists nourish the city by paying attention, they also nudge me to look at areas which I normally overlook. Given how crowded my city is with tourists, this attentiveness kind of reconciled me with their sometimes annoying presence.
But this may be a good reminder: They come to pay attention, and by that they nourish the place. Perhaps the place is in need of such care even though it looks quite the opposite.- tinydoctor and Linux Walt (@lnxw37j1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} like this.

@simsa03 I enjoyed my visit to your town. I liked the details. Walking with you was the best part. I'd like to come back for a longer visit. Don't know when that will happen. By the way, have you noticed any American tourists?

The woman I talked about in the previous post was US-ian. Although it's only early in the tourist season, US-ians are a quite large part of the folks running around.
Yep, that walk was great, with the chilly winds, the rain, even snow, although Mrs. Dr. Omed had to fight a lot in this weather. Should have taken you to the best "traditional" café instead of the Indian restaurant, but we will come to that. Or I dare the fascists and try to get a visum to the U.S. Kentucky is said to be a lovely place nowadays when MAGA and the fascists dance to their death march polka. @simsa03 I liked the food we had. I had traditional (tourist?) German food in Nuremburg with my daughter. But best sounds better, so to speak. The landscape hereabouts is lovely. Louisville is on the Ohio River, with Indiana on the opposite shore. Southern Indiana (I call it the Coast of Indiana, the Hick Riviera) is also beautiful. I'd take you to the Hemlock Cliffs. Politically of course IN is almost worse than KY. Trumplandia.

@simsa03 However, if you came to the USA, the Customs Gestapo might snatch you and you might end up in El Salvador.

Trumplandia it may be, but it has a Hick Riviera. Get a ™ for that and license it to the brute who loves Riverias so much... I'd love to the see the landscapes and the river and perhaps one or two of your favourite walks. Much to talk and I guess I need some stirring up my mind by your glee and, if that is even a word, your prankishness. Gee, how having become conservative (European sense) has made me dull and stupid. Which is one of the things I don't get with conservatives (European or US-ian style): Don't they feel how boring it is to be that way? -

That is a real concern. But it nudges me to try even harder. The rest of the world can't leave you people alone, in this self-erected ghetto that is Gestapo island...
