No one really gets excommunicated from the Catholic church these days, so if you're one of them… yikes.

@teacherbuknoy I still remember when the CBCP threatened to excommunicate PNoy over RH bill.

@teacherbuknoy Whereever it was entrenched, the Catholic Church has always been an obstacle to progress. Best comparison would be to compare PH to Ireland, where the Church opposed commonsense measures like abolition of the death penalty (cut off your hand, says Jesus) feeding children (because the state infringed upon the dominion of the family) and family planning. Only the most horrible violence and death upon women shook the Irish from their slumber. This was how abortion bans were overturned. Likely it will be the same in the Philippines.

@abolisyonista oohh I was too young to remember that. I was talking about a piece I read about a conservative cardinal who got excommunicated eventually.
But also, now that we're talking about it, is it a valid anxiety that CBCP might pull another stunt like this should a Filipino become pope? I know they opposed Duterte since the start of his campaign, but RH bill and stuff around marriages are a different thing.

@abolisyonista my main concern really about Cardinal Tagle becoming pope is the possible effects it might have on SOGIE bill, legalization of divorce, abortion, and same-sex marriage.
Abolisyonista repeated this.
