    This from @straphanger touches off two thoughts:

    (1) I am •extremely• wary of wandering into any position even remotely resembling “sliding into fascism is Good Actually™ because it disrupts systems so much”

    (not what this thread is saying, just a thing I’m wary of when such conversations arise)

    BUT

    (2) given all the disruption and destruction that •is• occurring, like it or not, it our job to imagine the future boldly so that we can seize the rebuilding when it occurs to shape a better future. https://urbanists.social/@straphanger/114359603864298265

      @inthehands @straphanger Get there with positive social priorities while things are loose, so as not to waste a crisis opportunity? That sounds like the maxim "chance favors the prepared mind" applied to policy advocacy.

      The same story has been told for having system resilience plans ready in a box for when a digital service outage opens a window to use them and improve the future now, while you can.

      Didn't think so, but edited the post to make it even clearer that I didn't think so!

      @inthehands DEFINITELY not what I’m saying in the thread, and, more importantly, the newsletter post.

      @JMMaok @straphanger
      Yeah. Whole lot of public transit systems out there could just go free with the right city / region / state level support.

      @inthehands @straphanger

      Right. I had my own moment of “so, tariffs as a consumption tax, hmm.”

      The part this admin is leaving out is the safety net. So that is where I would suggest we focus. Not on nudging more discretionary transit riders, but making sure very low income folks can at least get bus passes.

      What moves out of the federal gov moves to state, local, nonprofit, community and individual solutions.
