   If you have people, who are racist (misogynistic, fundamentalist etc.), they will find a way to communicate unless you completely strip the privacy from everyone.

   Speaking cynically - it's better for the mainstream understanding of "good" to have one cesspool where it's easy to lure unstable minds than to hunt for them through dozens of E2E encrypted invite-only chats.

     @tyx @osma Even if that were true, that's not what it was. 4chan was a gateway because it was *not* explicitly a nazi site like Stormfront but a place to get and share porn, weeb stuff, edgy stuff, etc.

     @tyx @osma I don't care about how you use the words but your very wrong opinion that it was good to let a site like 4chan exist to keep nazis contained. That's NOT what it did because it was ripe recruitment ground for people who did not go there to be nazis, vs something like Stormfront which was very clearly and explicitly a nazi site.

     I'm saying "actually" too often IRL and tried to cut some edges for the sake of brevity this time. On the Fedi the most popular stance is "no strict moderation rules enforced = nazi" and I'm taking this as a default view of the people I talk to here.
