Given the ability to transfer servers on #Mastodon have you, or do you know anyone that has completed this process?

Curious to hear your thoughts on the process and any TLDR issues that may occur.

I'm debating shifting off of the main Mastodon.Social server to a more photography based one so that my explore and live feeds are more relevant.

@geoff_eg you should look into pixelfed for more photography oriented features. From one mastodon to another should be seamless (did it long time back from mastodon.social to sfba.social). Pixelfed might be a more involved effort as it’s based on mastodon but has some other features on top that may not be exactly compatible.

@ram @geoff_eg Pixelfed is not based on Mastodon. We're just interoperable. Also, as a photographer, I try to build photography-oriented features into Mastodon, curious to hear what you're missing.

@Gargron I'm curious as well. I don't get Pixelfed other than I understand you can make albums of more than four photographs. Personally, on social media, I have found that folk's attention span to only be sufficient for one photo at a time. My experience from when I was on FB and IG was almost no one would click through an album of photos. But then maybe most folks don't find my work that compelling? Whatever, I've been perfectly happy using Mastodon. (Hat tip Eugen!)

@elaterite @ram @geoff_eg I feel the same. If I think my photo is good, I make a standalone post for it. Only combining multiple if they are thematically inseparable. The more separate posts you can make over time, the more visibility you get, just through the principles of how this kind of social media works.

@geoff_eg @elaterite @ram Shareable lists/starter packs are in the works, kind of stalled due to some writer's block on my part, but I'm very aware how much in demand that idea is. I'll think about what we can offer regarding image-only feeds.

@elaterite @Gargron @ram Agreed. I made a pixelfed when I first started on the fediverse and decided it wasn't for me. Too much like IG which I was wanting to leave. I quite enjoy these text based conversations that don't happen on a photo forward platform.

If I was to request any specific changes for photos on Mastodon it would likely be in the form of toggling a "show only image/text based post" for those times I want to view images/text only... and shareable lists.

@Gargron @ram @geoff_eg I use Mastodon most as a photographer. But I also have 2 Pixelfed accounts - mainly to show a quick overview of the stuff I do. Since I also speak about other things in life here, a portfolio feature would be great. Else, it's all about UI & UX for me. Give me nice, modern UI. Maybe move the images above the text (as a card layout). And a real good describe-this-image-for-blind-people feature (AI, I know) so I can actually upload stuff on the run.
