   @justine my only concern is that installing it on a laptop would hurt my battery life, otherwise I'm open to it.

     Sincere question: Why?
     I used FreeBSD 7.2 to teach computational chemistry for years with an ancient Dell 32 bits laptop running fvwm2 Never had an issue with the battery. Have things changed so much in the mean time?
