Costco is basically an opt-in commune: you pay a membership, walk into a no-frills warehouse, and get access to bulk essentials under a single in-house label. There’s usually one version of each product, no ads, no upselling—just big quantities, decent wages, the occasional unexplained shortage, and a flat, shared experience. It’s central planning with free samples, pallets and shrink wrap.

@joelvanderwerf For sure! I'm not going to say I'm a Costco fan just yet, but I definitely appreciate it. I've been shopping there since 2019 and I've seen their product selection improve significantly, with more organic, vegan and local options. I still go to Rainbow, but it's now maybe an even split.

@chema Just joined for the first time ever a few weeks ago, and it sure is a cultural shift compared to Rainbow and TJs.

@elliots @chema @joelvanderwerf I have used both their mail order as well as their pickup service from the 10th st Costco. I liked both experiences much better than Walgreens or cvs in terms of service and products. I was able to easily get a brand name version of something I take for not an exorbitant amount, and it actually helped; when I went during no insurance times the pharmacists would give me hefty discounts on meds and vax with whatever codes they had.

For covid vax they are consistently the only people who also do novavax

@skinnylatte @chema @joelvanderwerf I thought about trying their pharmacy but the reviews looked pretty negative...
