there is nothing special about america or its system apart from being at relitive peace with its neighbours. Most of the rest of the world outside of the US has experinced massive wartime impacts to its indistry, either because of internal stuff, the 2 very big conficts in the west, or more recently, the US interfering
america isnt special, it got lucky in the 1930's

@miawgogo there was a lack of established nobility which let people do a lot of stuff again.
i'm pretty sure most of the fond memories people have is literally just because the industrial gold rush was reset. -

@miawgogo imagine if microsoft blew itself up entirely. there would be a lot of market openings all of the sudden. software that can't exist because microsoft has something that fills the space, and it may not be good, but its enough to suffocate making anything else.
that was america in the early days. power had not been fully consolidated (cf. the charts showing the 19XXs had hundreds of businesses, but the 20XXs they are all owned by the same six firms)
america wasn't 'great' it was a green field.Fish of Rage likes this. -

@sun @miawgogo @nemesis frontiers are just a stall. the people who don't agree with the power brokers leave, until we run out of places to escape, and then you can't kick that can down the road anymore.
we could maybe bodge it by encouraging like minded people to cluster up and doing away with inter-communal fuckery. that's what the USA tried to do, and the north said we're willing to just kill everyone if we can't get the votes.
