I don't think it's moral relativism. You should not punch a random guy in the face. It's reasonable to punch a guy in the face if he is actually trying to punch you in the face: self-defense is a valid exception. It is worse to punch a guy in the face if he is a baby (because that will kill him) than if he is Andre the Giant (because he won't notice, because he is dead). That is, the expected outcome of the action (respectively, that a guy is punched; that you stop a guy from punching you; that a baby dies; that you defile a corpse) is a factor in the moral character of the action. If I nudge you in the ribs with my elbow, that is a neutral act, depending on the context. If I do it while you are dozing off and someone has asked you a question, then that's a good thing to do; if I do it while you are performing brain surgery, that's bad.

Well, it's bad to stab people, but stabbing someone in self-defense is reasonable.-

@miscbrains @icedquinn Or, you know, provide a definition of gluttony that doesn't require some amount of relativism. -

@p@fsebugoutzone.org @icedquinn@blob.cat shifting the language just muddies the waters, but fuck me it's late...
If you go into someones front door and ask if you can eat all their food- and they say yes. Reasonable expectations of consumption aside. That's not gluttony.
If you eat all their food in any other manner that's gluttony.pistolero likes this.
