Filled my HDDs and looking to upgrade to a proper NAS. I don't want to build a custom box.
Would prefer something open that I can install TrueNAS, but I'm open to arguments in favor of something more locked down like Synology.
Use case is as a media server, serving video and music over local network. I try to minimize transcoding of streams, but the ability to do so would be nice for things with subtitles and such. Currently have 10 TB capacity, mirrored. Looking at 4-5 bay, RAID 5 or 6.
Question is: Asustor, QNAP, UGREEN, iX Systems (though this would be top of budget, and honestly hardware is older, but it does offer 8 cores, and ECC memory), or something else entirely? I've been down the rabbit hole and I'm overwhelmed with options.
