In my English academic writing class today, Mr. Spock came up in a discussion about ethos, pathos, and logos.
Only 1-2 students out of 20 knew the character and his background (half-human, half Vulcan), and what Vulcans are known for.
This despite major reboots of Star Trek movies and shows since 2009, with many actors playing the role of Spock.
But oh yeah, let's dismantle the Dep't of Education.
Fuck all.

@DrOinFLA That sounds like a very interesting discussion! To be honest I'm not overly familiar with those terms, but I should hope I know Spock and Vulcans!

@Fragglemuppet
Spock's mom was human, father,
Sarek, was Vulcan.
So he's always torn between emotion and logic (pathos and logos). Vulcans are not supposed to ever show emotion, so that's the character's cross to bear throughout the franchise. -

@DrOinFLA Thanks.
Now the other trick is, I wonder how many people who do know who Spock and maybe Tuvok are would make the mistake of telling you that Vulcans don't have emotions?
