What do people even do with the HDD cage in thinkpads?
Clearly you want to recover the HDD if it's any good, or take it apart for the magnets, but why don't they wack the HDD cage right back in there?

The businesses just throw the HDD and cage right into the grinder without having the decency to undo merely 4 screws and shove the cages back in don't they?

The Chinese have undercut any of such market with their cheap clone HDD cages.
It's just laziness - you can sell a thinkpad for more if it includes a cage.

@Suiseiseki Doing it that way also provides more sales. I wouldn't be surprised if it's policy pushed from the top for that reason.
