This is it. In this thicket of details from @GottaLaff is our constitutional crisis. It’s here. https://mstdn.social/@GottaLaff/114184317848985596

Contempt much? Via Katie Phang: -The DOJ tells Judge Boasberg that it does not need to provide the Court with any additional info (despite being ordered to do so) b/c "there was no violation of the Court's written order (since the relevant flights left U.S. airspace, and so their occupants were 'removed,' before the order issued)" https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.278436/gov.uscourts.dcd.278436.28.0.pdf

The only explanation for the government's egregious stances in today's hearing regarding its compliance with judicial order in the Venezuelan deportation case, J.G.G. v. Trump, is that Trump likes his chances in the U.S. Supreme Court. https://heidi-says.ghost.io/trump-aiming-for-contempt-of-court-fight-to-be-on-his-terms/

The other explanation besides what Feldman said is that maybe the people in charge are just colossol nincompoops.

This is not mutually exclusive with her theory. Nor is it mutually exclusive with their strategy working.

None of these problems are going to fix themselves.

@inthehands @heidilifeldman Well that's obvious, yes, in every court case.

They •should• be concerned. Whether enough of them •are•, well….

Roberts will drag his feet to the bitter end, but like you, I’d bet on him ultimately trying to restrain the admin, however weakly. Does that get us to 5 in case after case after case? Not so sure about that.

@inthehands @heidilifeldman I’m not so sure he’ll get the answer he wants. Justice Roberts has issued a statement, about contempt of court, and the rule of law with regard to politicians and judicial decisions. I suspect SCOTUS is now becoming concerned that they will also be powerless as POTUS administration ignores various laws. They brought this mess about by giving him criminal immunity.

@GottaLaff With respect, this is more true in this case and Perkins Coie v. Trump than the rest, because Trump has cloaked himself in these two cases with claims of acting to serve national security, an interest the Roberts Court is especially protective of. 1/ @inthehands
