    I mean, what @StillIRise1963 said.

    And look, maybe you think it’s great that Columbia decided to punish those protestors and rescind their already-granted degrees (temporarily, until it’s permanent). Fine. You want to invest all that money and years of your life in a place that can move the goalposts on •you•? That thinks it can retract the degree after you get it?? You want to make that bet with your life?!

      College acceptances are coming out and big decisions have to be made. I hope ALL FAMILIES say NO to Columbia University.

      @inthehands @StillIRise1963

      When hiring, if I see a resume from Columbia ‘29 or later I would wonder about the candidate’s ability to manage risk.

      No disagreement about the flimsiness credentials vs the learning they represent, but don’t just wave away the harm because of that: https://hachyderm.io/@inthehands/114179387502355535

        @bifouba@kolektiva.social That is doubtless true in many cases, but there •will• be situations where students have to state whether they have a degree, yes or no, and answering “yes” would have legal consequences. Visa requirements, for example.

      @inthehands @StillIRise1963 In no way to diminish the weight of this, but what practical effect could denying the diploma have?

      Did these people not study? Did Columbia repossess the knowledge? Will professors and colleagues write less glowing endorsements?

      Don't worry. The last starts to hint the troubles that will be inflicted. This is what the University believes is a punishment and others might consider a badge of honor.

      Just pointing out the fictions maintained with credentials.
