   Last night I read a paper one of my nephews had turned in for one of this college classes. I caught a factual error and then looked a bit deeper. There were at least two more.

   He says he used AI to create the paper.

   The grader didn't catch the errors either. He got an A. #AI #WASF

     @WarnerCrocker Which #AI did your Nephew use? They are not all the same. Moreover, they are very much like #SpecialNeedsStudents. Some can see images while others are blind. Some can remember past conversations, others can not. Some can fold proteins. Some, like Google Gemini, will refuse to answer political questions about #Wealthy #White #Conservative #Politicians

     @WarnerCrocker A teacher friend of mine got a ChatGPT written assignment as soon as ChatGPT became public, but not widely known. It was obvious; circular rephrasing of the questions, nothing new added, empty platitudes.

     She rephrased asked her questions to be more pointed as to her expectations and had him redo the assignment without coming right out and accusing him.

     @Chancerubbage I'm not as upset about my nephew's actions. Let's face it, cheating, skating by, and lying are tools of success now and he seems to be mastering that skillset well (irony, not irony alert). I'm more concerned that what was a glaring factual error just got missed by the grader. In and of itself, that made the argument of the paper essentially moot.
