stoics are kind of similar to the shikata ga nai thing but also like
the funny part about stoicism is it isn't just being a jaded asshole and giving up like most of the adjacent philosophies are
its like the world is shit, time to live as correctly as possible :blobcatlord: maybe gonna be a little annoying about it-

the key is that it isn't about giving up (buddhism) there is extreme insularity as in what the buddhists do but then you find the control levers you do have and become the biggest problem imaginable in those ways
the fact that the usual suspects hate that philosophy is probably a sign -

My experience with the stoics is they tend to not give a shit about the state of the world at all. As opposed to those Plato gang that only care about the state of the world and want to fix/control it. -

@ned many of them did but you can't really control most of the things outside of yourself. you can control many of the things inside of yourself.
musashi and tzu kind of edge around the similar thing that a general or warrior that is aware of themselves is actually a huge problem
i don't think the stoics meant to be chads its just their specific version of trauma loop coping happened to align with one of the ways people become exceptionally dangerous individuals -

@ned i saw a huberman video last night where he's going on about some study where people basically meditate about nothing for 17 minutes and it results in some years long improvement in attention span
there's other studies that fasts and such trigger DNA repair
there seems to be a confluence of science around inner self termination triggers a lot of counter intuitive functions. -

It is a huge problem that people don't have time to think anymore. It takes away all self awareness. I can also believe that people not being hungry anymore would also have significant detrimental effects. Both physical and mental. We were built for adversary, with lots of time to sir and think inbetween. Now we have nightmare rectangles and liquid diabetes on demand. And I can't expect anyone to escape this torture machine as I can't either.
