I have been thinking about this a bit as I move away Gmail and Outlook accounts. I have a lot of people in my contacts and I have weighed whether to move them or not. My rule of thumb right now is that I ask is this a person who I would want to know any good or bad news in my life? If so, I keep them. If not, I let them go. It is hard. And your circle changes over time. I am thinking the same thing about Facebook as I put it into cold storage.

At what point do you stop considering people friends? Like, it’s been almost 5 years since I moved away from my hometown, these people have never come to visit me and expect me to go to them and they’ll try to fit me in, they don’t like my Facebook posts, they didn’t even come to my wedding. Like am I supposed to keep tabs on “friends” on socials forever and ever but actual friendship never happens? When do I cut it off?
