    What a spot on comment. Taking advantage of weak men doesn't make you strong.

      @ned @Masterork @MountainJay i have a feeling some of the uppity nature of ancient man is because they did not have nightmare rectangles.

      half the productivity bros talk about chat gpt, sigma grindset, always be working in your sleep, and the other half are like dispose of your nightmare rectangle and let the hate flow through you

      @ned @Masterork @MountainJay i'm not sure they knew this would happen on purpose i think they're just happy that it turned out this way.

      attention merchantry was almost impossible for say, romans, but in the boomers time they had radios (and ad hell), television. when i was a small i was systemically neglected and used to ask how i could possibly as a child out-compete the television programmers for attention.

      now there are phones to provide personalized dopamine jails. you get people in permanent loops of activities that are just engaging enough to avoid putting them down but not enough to get any sense of accomplishment or satisfaction out of it

      @icedquinn
      Are you implying the nightmare rectangle is there to pacify the hate? I don't think it's the rectangle, it's what the rectangle represents. Highly managed complex society. What uncle Ted would call "oversocialization". That's why he went to live in a cabin before the rectangles existed.

      @ned @Masterork @MountainJay someone will inevitably :blobcatphoto: but quinn this

      yes there were drunks, gamblers, people obsessed with theatre and colloseum, but these were seen as undesirable character defects and they required enough effort that you had to actually be engaging in walking down to the theatre for whatever reason.

      in the current time nobody sees any problem with farming your kids out to a nightmare rectangle while you stare at yours.
