@aral absolutely, though it’s only the extreme extension of the ideology of the last 40-odd years that, by definition, the private sector should run everything because, of course, successfully exploiting your workers and customers to maximise shareholder returns uniquely qualifies you to know how to run a hospital / government department / benefits system / adult & child social care, etc, etc 🤷🏽♂️

@aral I (an engineer) learned this the hard way with climate science. It seemed counterintuitive (wrong) because I didn't have all the facts. Fortunately I trust experts and was willing to learn. I ran across too many people who were the opposite.

@aral They've conflated intelligence with knowledge. They think better than average so they assume that's the same as knowing better.
That then also translates back into taking an ego hit every time they don't know something because they think it means they're not intelligent and then their ego protection kicks in and shuts down rational thought.
