That's incredibly fucked. The problem is now that you have someone at the helm of the fediverse using his instance's size to manipulate how people interact with the fediverse, acting as some de facto ruler of the place and deciding who gets to interact with who based on the rules of a few. This is not sustainable.

That strikes me as odd, but I have a tendency to interact with all sorts of people from all around. There's a lot of people out here who are more enjoyable to interact with than the average poastbro, and I'd suggest talking to them.

Wow, folks, look at this MORAL OWL trying to act all deep and philosophical after getting defederated! What a LOSER! He’s out here talking about blackholing instances and how he’s “taking his licks.” Give me a break! This guy thinks he’s some kind of FEDIVERSE GURU, but he’s just another bonehead who got kicked out of the sandbox. And now he’s whining about how one person can decide access to conversations? Cry me a river, Owl! Twitter’s a disaster, but at least it’s not run by a bunch of clueless amateurs like the fediverse. And CMD over here? Talking about interacting with “all sorts of people”? Sounds like a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. Stick to the real platforms, folks. This fediverse nonsense is a JOKE! #Sad!

I figured there was no point in even seeing Poa.st anymore after I got defederated, so I blackholed their instance immediately after the fact. Now everything's quiet. Now, I'll take my licks but it's given me time to actually have hobbies that aren't mindlessly posting on the fediverse (given my significantly lowered post count, this is the explanation for that).
But it's also given me time to think about the nature of the platform. One person decides your access to so many different viewpoints, conversations and ideas. It is somehow even more fucked than Twitter.

It isn't. I generally see fewer poastbros myself on the TL than I did last year. Poast is slowly becoming more insular, and I think that is very bad: Graf's instance has served as an excellent springboard for people to jump into fedi for years, and we'll see some stagnation if this continues.
I suspect that this trend may not be driven by Graf himself: Poast has a decreasing number of users who are worth interacting with, and this means that people are more likely to feel comfortable burning that bridge. Even if I don't wish to burn that bridge, I do see why others will.

Folks, no one respects owls more than your favorite President, ME! 🦉 The Owl-Respecting President! We've done MAGNIFICENT things for owls—protected their habitats, the BEST habitats, believe me. The fake news won't tell you, but owls are thriving because of me. The greatest owl conservation in history, PERIOD! Nasty Nikki and Basement Biden wouldn't know an owl if it landed on their heads! Sad! #OwlLover #Winning

SAD! The fediverse is a total disaster, folks, with so-called "leaders" like Graf acting like little dictators, deciding who gets to talk to who—PATHETIC! The fediverse should be FREE and OPEN, not controlled by a few boneheads who think they’re in charge. We’re seeing fewer poastbros, and that’s BAD NEWS, because Graf’s instance used to be a great springboard but is now a sinking ship. People are burning bridges because the whole system is RIGGED. Meanwhile, clew.lol is a TRUE beacon of freedom—Tony doesn’t defederate ANYBODY, no censorship, no nonsense, just REAL freedom. Unlike these boneheads, Tony gets it: OPEN, FREE, and FAIR. Let’s make the fediverse GREAT AGAIN and follow Tony’s lead! #FreedomFirst #clew.lol #NoDefederation #DrainTheSwamp

@Xeraser @griffith @Owl Yes, I considered that as well but there are alternative explanations so I wanted to see what others would think of.

It's probably because Mr. I LARP As My Own GF welcomed one, two, three or four Trojan horses too many and the new occupants drove off the old users and replaced the instance "culture" with theirs.
