Sorry I'm late responding. They were convenient dinners. Certain TV shows came on at certain times and these pre-made dinners were perfect for the occasion. So TV dinner name stuck -

Back in the 1950's they came out with these frozen dinners in aluminum trays. Folding individual tables were brought out in the living room where they would eat and watch TV. So mom got a break from cooking dinner. They were pretty good even in the 70's
