China plans to issue a policy to encourage the use of RISC-V chips nationwide for the first time. The policy is being drafted by eight government bodies, including the Cyberspace Administration of China and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. China has been embracing RISC-V in recent years due to its lower costs and geopolitical neutrality.

@yogthos That's what I mean by "ironically sabotaged themselves". It's so stupid that we'd do shit like just pull away from RISC-V entirely as some strange means of "hurting" China by not supporting the open standard developmentally in lieu of Western-dominated proprietary standards which are being rendered obsolete. In what universe does that benefit the United States other than maybe in extremely short-term hits against Chinese semiconductor development? USA is so dumb and so short-sighted.

@adiz my favorite part is that these kind of policies only harm the US itself. The more restrictive the US makes its tech, and the harder they make it for their researchers to collaborate with the rest of the world the more they will fall behind. Meanwhile, China's open tech will be the global standard setter.

      > U.S. lawmakers were putting pressure on the Biden administration to restrict American companies from working on [RISC-V] over concerns that Beijing was exploiting its open-source nature to advance its own semiconductor industry.

Americans are such cunts. Seriously. The biggest fucking babies out there. Massively sore losers who are too incompetent and selfish and petty to compete fairly. Ironically sabotaged themselves by focusing on short-term, underhanded techniques in order to advance. Didn't work out. Won't work out. America is a dead empire walking.
