there is a health condition that gets labelled as fake, that only certain types of people have it, or claim to have it - absolute classic case of stigma.
so instead of recognising and tackling that stigma, people who have it say they "don't think of themselves as having that" because that'll help.
multiply across many things.
it's not helpful. it's bloody annoying to those of us in the trenches.

@FeartnTired It absolutely sucks to have Crohn's Disease which I developed post-Covid. However, other people developed CRAPs (Covid-Reactive Autoimmune Pathologies) that are thus-far undiagnosable and more mysterious, and get lumped into "Long Covid" which is considered mythical by many. I feel fortunate that my CRAP has a name and treatment and garners me lots of sympathy while others receive blame and contempt, insult added to injury.

@ninapaley @FeartnTired I'm sorry to hear this. My son was diagnosed it as a teen and thankfully was able to have a successful operation to cut out the infected section of bowel, since when he has thrived. It can be managed, I understand, with diet.
Sending positive outcomes for you.❤
