@jimmybuffettfanaccount the simple answer is that all the technology we have doesn't make poor art good, it simply allows great artists to do even more.
So what happened is that in the 40s the bad film was really attrocious, but now the bad stuff is quite a bit better than the stuff then because technology makes say, editing and re-editing easy.
But the craftsmanship that went into say, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly can't be matched with Final Cut Pro.-

by the way, is there an explanation beyond “it’s current year of course everything has to suck” why a movie from the 40’s has better looking historical costumes and armor than contemporary films?
