      @seungjin It is digitally handcuffed to ensure it only runs approved proprietary init software that definitely doesn't contain malware, thus you shouldn't be tempted.

      @seungjin It uses a UEFI, which includes init software that is handcuffed to stop you from replacing it.

      @Suiseiseki
      What do you mean by 'init software'? Do you mean BIOS?

      @seungjin Any intel CPU newer than 2008 or AMD CPU newer than ~2015 is handcuffed.

      It's not a matter of BIOS or UEFI boot, as that is much later in the process than init.

      The newest laptops you can get that are GNUbootable are the XX00 thinkpads; https://www.gnu.org/software/gnuboot/web/docs/hardware/#laptops-intel-x86

      @Suiseiseki
      Is there any modern / fast laptops that support legacy BIOS mode or way not to use UEFI?

      @seungjin Works on my machine.

      I don't use garbage software, thus no compilation takes 2 hours and I never hit OOM (8GB is plenty of RAM).

      If you have a need for lots of performance, a laptop really isn't suitable - you'll want a KGPE-D16 with 16 cores and 256GB ECC RAM.

      @Suiseiseki
      Yep. That's why I don't care about UEFI. I can't work with those old ones. I don't want to wait another two hours for my compilation to finish or, even worse, for an OOM error to occur.

      @seungjin GNU Compiler Collection builds fine on dual and quad cores and 8GB of RAM.

      Good luck with the garbage LLVM+clang/clang++ though.

      @Suiseiseki
      Currently watching decent good cpu (5Ghz) with 64G ram on it. Not sure what you call garbage software, but building my own compilers and software takes some power and RAM.
