     A quick look at the coloration on their bodies could bolster that or rule that out. Carbon monoxide poisoning leaves bright pink discoloration on surface tissues.

     Details say they were found discovered during a welfare check, so it's likely nobody had heard from the two in quite some time. Which makes this even more alarming.

     Depends on how long. If they had a wellness check called for them, it's likely they were inside and unexposed to the elements. The fact that the dog is dead means it's likely there really are environmental factors at work.
