Reminder to donate if you can, niggas. Every bit helps me provide better stuff for you. We're going to be upgrading the server within the next probably two months or so, and electing to migrate to a new datacenter with much better support and network stability. This will come at a cost, but it's gonna be worth it. Please consider helping me out so I don't have to sell my second penis to keep this stuff running. :yotsuba_bow:

So what does it take to get those people to start to actively participate again?

I think you missed my point - I don't want them to. They were mostly people that came here, thought they'd get their next big grift following by regurgitating the same shit they did on Gab, and then realized no one cares to hear the same contrived garbage they've heard a thousand times already. Opening the doors also grants bad actors a larger attack surface. NCD has avoided security breaches thus far because of that fact alone. Not only that, but because I implore people to utilize another service I host (Matrix) to communicate securely. I put far more thought into this than you may think.

Sure we have lost good people for one reason or another. I hope they come back some day, but if they don't, then I hope we find new ones. If not, then we don't. I doubt we will see much growth over the next four years as people leave the fediverse for Twitter because they think space man is going to save free speech (they just want to grift off of Twitter) but hopefully we will be around when they decide that making their 100th new account to own the libs is no longer worth their time. Old habits blah blah

My suggestion would be to tone down the anime and the frat house attitude somewhat. It doesn't bother me, but I can see it being very oft putting to many people, especially women.

No. I'm not opening the doors to everyone because that's not what NCD was for. I do everything through a business entity for tax purposes but the plan wasn't to turn NCD into the next big social media site. I only want like minded people here. We have over 2000 accounts in our database and only 484 of them are active because of that reason. I don't expect to become successful financially from this, but if I do it'll be because people have fun and appreciate the work I put into it. I promised that the culture of NCD would never be offset by new people. It is assimilate or leave. This is a website for adults.

As for women, we have the most women of any fediverse instance in the "dark fedi" circle. All I ask if that those who don't contribute, start. Especially those who have been here for years.

Because then it becomes a grift. I only increase it when absolutely necessary. Which, of course, it is at this point. Fact is we need more people.

People like filling bars. When monthly request bar is full, why not create another with an aspiration (new server, next year's upkeep, 50 barrels of vaseline, whatever)?
