   @MaryAustinBooks I used to work at a barite mine. Barite mineral lore is before the FDA, merchants would put barite in flour, because barite grinds up white, and is very heavy. so the weight of the flour being purchased was off.

     Remember in history class, when we learned about the Gilded Age snake oil medicines? Sawdust substituted for flour in bread? The kind of stuff that led to the creation of the FDA?
