@burnoutqueen Yeah, it's like earthquakes. Yeah the event itself is short, but it's the culmination of years or decades of pressure.
@burnoutqueen The basic idea of a democratic process is to be able to gradually release the pressure in a peaceful transition of power back and forth. But when one side has been pushing to break that process for years, decades tbh, the back and forth tension release no longer works. You're down to surrender or fight.
A controversial Russian revolutionary once said "there are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen."
Regardless of your opinions on the person who said it, it is a very good way of describing the Trump administration.

This is well said. And it’s something that I'm not sure today’s oligarchs fully understand: their wealth is largely built on, and contingent on, the continued conditions of relative social stability that democracy provides. A crass way of saying that is that I don’t think stocks have priced in fascism. Yet.
