the awkward case of systems people write SOPs and leadership people are the ones who actually determine how the minions get treated.

@icedquinn it's certainly dehumanizing but nothing is going to work better at finding out who was actually important than firing everybody if your company/agency is huge

@sun i dunno i don't think you should be firing people unless they're completely unworkable.

@icedquinn I don't think you should do it. Just that it's really hard to figure out who's important

@sun send random people home for a week. see if line goes up or down.

@icedquinn at many of my previous jobs, if I just tried to come into work one day and I was locked out of the office and locked out of email, something would go wrong within about 24 hours that would cost a shitload of money

@sun sucks to suck :cat_sad:
simulated hard failure forces you to be strong.

@s8n @icedquinn next time I get a corporate job I'm keeping a log of interactions every single day so I have records needed for things like this. I know it's not foolproof but

@icedquinn @sun there was a guy I recommended that my company fire for performance related reasons last year. They decided not to do that. Then they fired me because he said it was my fault. A few months later they had to fire him anyway because he had threatened to kill someone twice in the time since I had been terminated.
long story short, fire underperformers. There is a threshold beyond which incompetence is malicious

@sun @s8n i have a self-transcribing recorder now.

@sun @s8n innoasis r1. they're about 50$. there's a pocket recording mode and a sound trigger mode.
but anything with a mic will do. rnnoise or deepfilternet are quite strong denoisers and whisper.cpp is a competent transcription aid

@sun @s8n the job i got from fedi taught me to never believe in the mission and don't trust people just because you know them. absolute siege mentality at all hours when corpos are near.

@icedquinn @s8n thanks for the reminder, my last three jobs were actually really smooth and I'm not used to corporate life anymore

@sun @s8n things are smooth until they're not then you really wish you had the call log from when corporate told you not to work on sensitive tasks so you can nail their dicks to the wall in a lawsuit when they claim you were a bad worker
