Out of all the things to find at the scrapyard today I didn't expect it to be the fucking forward TPCs of the STAR detector???
Especially not in this condition 😭
Probably for the best, if they had been whole I would have had to take them home.
But man, it hurts to see any detector like this.

I once again have to come to the realization that I know fuck all about chip design.
First three pics are the SCA/ADC, starting with the LBL logo, a switched capacitor array (I think?) that didn't like my decap method and the third pic must be the SCA/ADC logic itself. I don't recognize anything there.
Fourth pic is a logo I found on the SAS, anyone recognize it? -

Two happy sets of ASICS in the SEM.
The smaller one is preamp / shaping, the bigger one is the SCA/ADC -

Of course I had to take some parts, namely two cathode pad planes and some readout electronics. Using all the cleaning products I could find I got them to an ok-ish state and soldered / plugged together what still looked ok.
Maybe it will be a nice desk piece once I print some holder for it.
The asics will definitely be interesting under the SEM!
