   I gave Google Maps 1 star (out of 5) in a review of the Gulf of "America", saying this knee-bending misinformation was detrimental to the reputation of Google Maps itself.

   The Team Fascist folks at Google deleted that -- and countless other -- reviews.

   Unethical, but unsurprising.

     Meanwhile on OpenStreetMap there is a little bit of an edit war on the Gulf of Mexico.
     
     People have changed it to "Gulf of America" a few times and each time it has gotten reverted.
     
     The current solution on OpenStreetMap is the following:name:en "Gulf of Mexico" official_name:en-US "Gulf of America" source:official_name:en-US "https://edits.nationalmap.gov/apps/gaz-domestic/public/search/names/558730"
     Every other language and locale still calls it Gulf of Mexico.

     All my Google reviews geh deleted in the first round. All of them valid and serious. Had to appeal every time.
