I've seen some commentary floating around here (and felt this at times myself) that one of things that is missing in the Fediverse is the special kind of insanity that comprised Philly Sports Twitter. I've been trying to brainstorm a way to make that a reality here without screwing up the Masto vibe. I fully recognize that a lot of the best Philly sports follows never made it here from the birdsite, but, especially in the wake of SBLIX, I miss the jubilant weirdness we used to have.

@stumblewyk @skyfaller aww that's a shame. I never realized that there even was a migration of Philly sports fans here. FWIW there are sports fans on the Fediverse lots of them just seem to follow hashtags or the reposting feeds like hockey[@]a.gup.pe or nfl[@]a.gup.pe

@skyfaller So, full disclosure, I originally showed up as one of those folks. A bunch of us landed at mstdn.party, some of them discovered the jawns.club domain and thought a Philly-centric domain would be a better home. I'm pretty sure most of them left because they weren't getting the same reach they had on Twitter/X in 2022, and because after their initial revulsion to Musk taking over they decided it wasn't so bad. Which, well, not sure we want them here if that's how they feel.

@stumblewyk There was that brief weird period where dozens of Philly sports accounts did invade Jawns.club. They all came at once and outnumbered the tech nerds for a glorious moment. Not sure why they all left again, really, I imagine Mastodon was too confusing or not sporty enough, but I have no hard data.

I guess if you could find any of them and ask them why they came and why they left, that might be useful info.

@mcneely @skyfaller yeah, I follow the NFL and baseball group accounts, and they help. I didn't even know if what I'm missing is something that *can* be recaptured here, or if it should be. I just miss the weird community of people living and dying on the Philly Cocky/Distraught sports spectrum.

@stumblewyk @skyfaller I know exactly what you mean. It's sports but it's not *Philly Sports*. I'm not sure how much of that niche ever came over 😕

@mcneely @skyfaller Right, sports fans are all a bit crazy, but Philly sports fans are crazy in this bizarre collective way that just feels different.
