Anyone installed/used #CalyxOS on a #Fairphone? I'm tempted to try it out but want to avoid a high risk of bricking it if I get one on a #Fairphone4 deal I found, and also don't want to lose too many capabilities from my current Samsung S9 with #eOS on it, so am interested to know how well it runs.

@jdkiser Ah that sucks it was stolen. Thanks for this though! I'm a big de-Googler, so those are all benefits for me, and it sounds very similar to running /e/OS.

@MediaActivist Better than the stock OS on the Fairphone 4 (which was rarely updated). It is a rolling release and updates automatically. The only issue was that Google Photos did not recognize my Google subscription, so I couldn't use some of their premium editing features. But other Google things worked, like Youtube Music, and the Google drive with my 2TB of storage. Everything else was fine to include banking. I ran it for about eighteen months before having the phone stolen in Paris.

I've been running calyxos since getting my fairphone 4 when it launched and its been amazing. I have microg installed and all my uk banking apps work just fine. That's the only reason for installing microg though as I mainly use fdroid or obtanium for apps. -

Well, I snagged the #Fairphone4 so by the weekend we may find out if I brick the thing, which would be a major backfire. I installed /e/OS on Samsungs multiple times over the years (albeit via their "easy installer") so fingers crossed I can pull this off without an issue! #CalyxOS #Fairphone #DeGoogle #eOS

@buerviper Good question! Part of my motivation for getting a Fairphone (aside from potential repairs!) was so I could switch to CalyxOS, which isn't available for my Samsung.

@MediaActivist why don't you install eOS then on the Fairphone? (I mean considering you come from eOS)
