   @healyn Yep! Planet Money did a whole thing about the senator who made "wacky research" his weekly drumbeat of government waste outrage.

   But that "shrimp fight club" he wanted defunded was actually research into better body armor for soldiers.

     Right-wing propaganda in defense of defunding research is always like, "we were spending $10M on beetle ejaculate????", and then you do one quick online search and learn that beetle ejaculate has cured multiple STDs
