Idk why retards want people to use docker containers for stuff like home assistant and frigate.

@dcc Simple, soyware like that is annoying to setup on bare-metal and incredibly annoying to package for distributions. ✙ dcc :pedomustdie: :phear_slackware: likes this. -

@dcc I know, the fun begins when one of the deps requires a different (newer) version of Python than what you have installed. Because I doubt that the Python deps support 3.6/3.7. ✙ dcc :pedomustdie: :phear_slackware: likes this. -

@phnt >don't have add-on support
Seems you can make it work with manual install of addons. -

@dcc And also you won't have add-on support when installing it in a venv or a container. You need their VM. That is even more stupid than using Docker. -

@phnt Also the idea you need a entire separate computer to run once piece of software is insane (other than stuff like pfsense) -

@phnt Related, this article is just the worst way to setup up a home server lol https://wiki.futo.org/index.php/Introduction_to_a_Self_Managed_Life:_a_13_hour_%26_28_minute_presentation_by_FUTO_software -

As expected Python 3.12 is required for some depends, Python 3.13 required for HomeAssistant itself. Which makes it uninstallable on Debian 12 Stable, RHEL9 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. It literally cannot be installed on basically anything sensible. homeassistant-2025.1.4 installs with Python 3.12.

It's worse. It's Docker on top of a KVM.

Devs like this should be forced to target all 4 major BSDs for a year to learn what portability means.
