   I'd really like the option to prevent direct messages from people I don't follow (I'm just getting too many these days that aren't relevant or helpful, I'm afraid) but I don't believe this is an option on Mastodon from what I've been told. Is this accurate? #Mastodon #AskMastodon #AskFedi

     @stephanie Thank you! It confused me at first as, for me, that doesn't show but under notification settings themselves is "unsolicited private mentions > filtered unless it's in reply to your own mention or if you follow the sender" which I am guessing does the trick -- and you set me on the right track. Much appreciated!

     @MediaActivist It's a weird thing to do imo. It's only happened to me a few times but it's a blocking offence as far as I'm concerned. I don't think there's any other way to deal with it pre-emptively.

     @fkamiah17 @stephanie Yeah, I think so too -- the only such settings I found on the web browser were under the notifications settings.

     @fkamiah17 @stephanie I found it via the settings (gear icon) on my actual notifications page on web browser. Not as intuitive for me haha.

     @MediaActivist @stephanie Yeah, the only notifications showing in my preferences are email, so I guess it must be down to individual instances.
