The world owes @pluralistic an unending debt of gratitude for the word "enshittification," a word so useful that even my browser's spell-checker recognizes it. As a succinct way of conveying a somewhat broad concept, it has opened up space for a lot of thought and conversation... and the occasional not-terrible listicle. Thanks, man.

@me @pluralistic
Other languages should start getting their properly localized versions of "enshittification".For the Italian, I propose "apputtanificazione".

if that distinction is relevant, it would be worth preserving in translations. @pluralistic@mamot.fr, did you mean "enshittify sth" to mean "turn sth into shit" or "add shit to sth"?

@waitworry @fabriziob @me @pluralistic There is debate in Spanish because there exists the verb "enmierdar", but that has a sense of adding shit to something, while some (as myself) consider that "mierdificación" would be more appropriate, since the process of enshitification is not just putting shit into the product, but turning the product itself into shit.
