The big ones have precise control AND fast movement. Good ones feel smoother. And... I don't have to dedicate half my desk to moving a fucking pointer or reticle.
Plus, pop the ball out and you have a toy to play with!

And don't even get me started on that awful awful pickup and set-down mouse maneuver! 😖
      That is the WORST!

No, wait, that is 2nd worst. WORST is the texture of mousepad rubbing against the side of my hand!
      Gah! 🤮

My pointer device preferences from fave to least fave...

      1 - large trackball
      2 - Thumb trackball if I must
      3 - trackstick
      4 - trackpad
      5 - touchscreen

      "But what about gaming?"
Game controller, trackball, or I'll go find something else to do.
(A tiny list of exceptions - I'll play Bejewled or Hill Climb Racing on touchscreen)

I agree, but can TOLLERATE batteries.
And there is one use case I prefer wireless... When I send my computer display over to the TV, or otherwise use a keyboard and/or trackball on my lap.

I have a kickass Periboard for that! It's a keyboard with a little bitty trackball in the upper corner that works great for non-precision computing on my bed using my TV as the display

@hellomiakoda Ooh, thank you! I've been searching for new keyboards to try out (preferably wireless mechanical ones) and Perixx do actually have keyboards with non-US keyboard layouts for us Europeans!

Just to be clear, the Periboard I have isn't a mech. I typically hate domes, but in this one use case, the small size and built in itty bitty trackball was more important.

I'm quite partial to the big grey, wired, non "slim" Kensington. It's not open hardware, but works on basic drivers in Linux.

@hellomiakoda hmm, I've never really tried a trackball. Do you have a particular model or maker to recommend? Bonus points if it's open hardware 🤗

No no, not the slim. The one before the slim, with a scro ring.
