@killyourfm I did the benchmark on my 5700X3D / 7900XTX machine and it took well over 10 minutes

@nebadon2025 oof. I better settle in for the long haul then, since I’m testing on the steam deck and Legion go 😂

Looking great on my current Fedora 41 system! (This is with frame generation disabled)

@raptor85 Don't judge me, but... this might be my first Monster Hunter game. There's something about it that seems way more appealing than prior entries.
Though to be fair, the last one I tried spending any length of time with was MHFU on PSP.

@killyourfm it definitely both looks and runs better than beta 1 (and beta 1 was honestly not bad besides the invisible texture glitch). My friends and I are eagerly awaiting this one, only thing we've really been looking forward to for a while...

The minimum viable setting for playable 30+FPS on Steam Deck looks to be:
1280x800
Graphics Preset: Lowest
FSR: Performance
Frame Generation: OnUntil it crashes.
So, in my experience, this game isn't playable on Steam Deck (for now). -

@raptor85 Maybe I'll play around with that. You won't be able to go lower than native res through in-game settings, though.

@killyourfm I'm too lazy to copy it across to my deck and test but I'd imagine much like world you can dump it down to 540p and turn on FSR to look virtually idtentical to 800p but get almost double the framerate and battery

@killyourfm I updated Proton bleeding edge and it works decently without any upscaling or frame gen. Still would expect better.

@Azarilh Thanks for sharing.
Over here I updated to Proton Hotfix on Steam Deck and Frame Gen stopped crashing. But it looks TERRIBLE. -

@killyourfm FSR frame gen freezes my PC. lol
Otherwise it runs... weirdly? At ultra settings i still see some blurriness (7900 GRE + 7 7700). It's mostly fine without FSR frame gen but the FPS drop below 30 during heavy sudden scene changes. Overall it still feels like a beta.
EDIT: Clearly the bluriness came from the default FSR upscaling. The fact that i need that for a 650€ GPU is upsetting to say the least.

Good news! Proton Hotfix seems to eliminate crashing when frame generation is enabled! This ole' game might be playable yet.

What I can say with certainty is that #MonsterHunterWilds isn't playable on Steam Deck without AMD Frame Generation, even on the Lowest graphics preset.

@killyourfm this is going to be the case for most AAA titles released onward. The Steam Deck is cool but there's only so much it can do with that limited amount of power and it's starting to be not that young anymore.
So what I'm saying is... Steam Deck 2? -

@mathieucomandon I know Valve doesn't think it's time for Steam Deck 2, but these unplayable AAA titles are really adding up. Don't get me wrong, it's still a badass indie machine (or a "everything pre-2024" machine), but a lot of people want JUST one device to enjoy everything on.

See, here's the problem...
I can run flip on frame generation, run the benchmark, show you this result, and you might think "OH that's totally playable."But then I show you the absolutely atrocious stuttering during that benchmark run. It frequently becomes a slideshow, and not a good looking one either.
