This is important, and you should pay attention if you enjoy any kind of erotic media whatsoever - including sex blogs (COUGH COUGH).

When Ofcom starts to enforce the Online Safety Act in the UK, the *quickest and easiest* way for most of us to comply is to geoblock UK IP addresses.

So come the summer, in the UK, if you wonder where all the porn has gone, the answer is it's still there you're just blocked from seeing it.

Question: is geoblocking the UK an acceptable alternative? Ofcom: we want UK citizens to enjoy access to a wide range of online services. We do not want people to block the UK market. **If a service feels that the best way to comply is to geoblock the UK, that is sufficient to meet the regulations.** #OnlineSafetyAct

@girlonthenet Unless you're living or doing business in the UK, the easiest way to comply is not giving a fuck about clownery of a country that has no jurisdiction over you.

@bastetfurry@mastodon.social @girlonthenet@mastodon.social the law is shit, but countries with reciprocal extradition agreements in place will do so if an equivalent law is on the books in both countries. "equivalent" here has a very loose definition and isn't worth arguing about if you're not a lawyer who argues it. the online safety act creates personal liability for the officers of a company that isn't compliant, and so this breaks things like using a limited company to act as a shield. the most trivial way to de-risk all this bullshit is to geoblock the UK... I say that as a UK user who will be inconvenienced by a geoblockade and yet find it the only reasonable reaction that those who run services throughout the US and Europe should take... as those are the countries with the most reciprocal agreements with the UK, it is all crap, but since we're at the point of "this is the law, now we're moving to how to enforce"... just block the UK and be done with it.

@girlonthenet @dee I'll leave it to folks to make their own risk decisions, but the idea of extradition here is a huge stretch and I'm not a fan of complying in advance, which complying with laws of draconian foreign nations you don't have any relationship amounts to.
