   So with these new law changes coming eventually to social media, including the need to verify ourselves with ID to prove our age - how does that look for #Mastodon and other #Fediverse social media? In particular the larger instances that have responsibility to its user base under their own countries laws?

   I don’t think this would affect small private servers in any way, but I’m interested to know more…

     @samuel it doesn't work for Fediverse. There's 30,000+ servers. Good luck to them.😂

     However, if they start harassing Fediverse admins for this, most will just move their server outside of the US and a LOT have already started doing so preemptively.🤷♂️

     @samuel well, as an admin of my own instance, if I ever get a fine from Australia, they will get the most heartfelt letter telling them to kindly fuck off.😂

     Obviously I don't know what a big instance would do. But I'd hope they'd respond the same way.

     If we let governments push us around, we're no better than X.

     @BeAware it doesn't seem to be about which country a server is in. With the Australian law, for example, they can fine you in your country (you as the owner/admin I guess) for not having those measures in place for users of that country (Australia).
