   Guys, I can't believe it, open source VRChat is here. It's called @overte and it's actually fast. It supports hundreds of people in a single instance and the editor is actually built into the game. You can hang out with your friends and make worlds together. This is INSANE.

   The are working on support for Vulkan to make it even faster. Also VRM models so you can have anime girls, of course.

     @fell@ma.fellr.net @overte@fosstodon.org I really crave for an alternative to VR Chat that doesn't require Unity and is as fully featured as it is, but also giving more interactivity to non-VR users because, let's face it, not everyone is willing to buy those expensive glasses.
     
     Something more in the lines of Second Life, but much better and open.

     @fell @overte oh hold on a second, that's just High Fidelity - Philip's old aborted project. Guess the open source fork hasn't given up yet.

     @Polychrome @overte Yeah, they explained it to me, but I didn't quite grasp the story behind it. I just think that it's a solid base for something that could be on a similar success trajectory like the Godot Engine, which is also a former commercial project.
