In @BrodieOnLinux 's newest video, he talks about what he thinks the future holds for the role of a Linux distribution, where the distro takes care of core system components, and applications come straight from the app developers, who take care of distribution themselves. I couldn't agree more. I've been on both the distro packager side and the app developer side, and I can see that hard cutoff from what's great for downstream distros to package and what isn't.
@ryanabx There's always going to be a place for distros that want to package everything, Gentoo and Arch aren't going anywhere, but even though I don't fully agree with the way they're approaching it I do think Ubuntu is on the right track.
