   i have not used #GoogleMaps in over a decade.

   one of the first things i do when setting up a new #Android unrooted #Android phone:

   1. activate developer mode
   2. give permission to the browser to download & install software
   3. go to https://f-droid.org
   4. download & install their app
   5. disable #GooglePlay

   then i proceed to install all my apps from there. a must have:

   Organic Maps: Hike, Bike, Drive Offline
   https://organicmaps.app/
   https://f-droid.org/packages/app.organicmaps

   i also use their #linux app

     @blogdiva My employer requires us to use Microsoft M365 for many things, but they at least they allow us to use macOS and we can install FLOSS products on our computers.

     have not used #Microsoft #Windows in over a decade.

     owe to #OpenOffice #LibreOffice my slow crawl out of the Windows ecosystem. that was about 20 years ago. i refuse to use anything that needs me to run Windows or MSOffice.

     actually got into web development after years of being a desktop publishing expert, mostly using Adobe and MS products. haven’t touched any of their stuff since i moved all my workflow to FLOSS products.

     sometimes i do miss Macromedia & Dreamweaver.

     @bmacDonald94 am working on a longer explainer, but: find the app manager in your device and look up all the google apps. then follow the instructions, but know it affect all the apps you downloaded from the GPlay store.

     so hold off for now. just download FDroid and get yourself acquainted with them before you decide to muck around with GApps.

     @bmacDonald94 @knownasrose CRICKET! be careful. they may have a deal with Google to do that with all their android phones. make sure they prove you can disable Gapps in Android phones. if you can buy a phone with Newegg or another company and still use their services, that’s the way to go.

     this is part of the longer explainer on the problem with completely degoogling in the USA and Canada.
