   can anyone recommend a service that I can put a JS snippet on an otherwise plain ol’ web page and it’ll allow people to annotate / comment on it as if it were in google docs?

   if this doesn’t exist I might have to build it

     @mattly to edit the actual HTML on the page? Or a collaborative rich-text editor on the page?

     TiddlyWiki would work if you allow the users to write to the file system and rewrite the file (and likely modify enough for the page to look the way you want)

     It also needs to work on an existing, static page
