@dansup it doesn't need to be a hidden or confusing choice, just an informed and simple one. It's like shopping for the right product online, people need info and they need to trust that when they make a choice and click the go button they won't get disappointed or nasty surprises. Some may prefer new or established or big or small or special focus etc and that's ok, but badness still needs to be filtered by opinionated moral humans.

@dansup what are the three main points to consider when choosing a server? Is there a way of ranking or quantifying them?
In the registration process, the application presents an ordered list of servers with these indexes and lets the user choose one.Some important information could be the number of active users, the size of the federation, the quality of moderation (how to measure?).
