   Don’t make your instance owner have to beg you to help them keep the service you are using running.

   That includes all of the Fedi services you use. Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube, Lemmy, etc..

   Every little bit helps. If you can only give $2 a month, then that’s $2 more they can use to help provide the service to those who can’t even afford $2 a month.

   If this is truly “the people‘s social media“ then we should all do our part to make sure that it isn't a burden to those that provide it for us

     @Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social we should all do our partAn important part of "doing your part" is making sure no megaservers exist. The idea of megaservers goes directly against the concept of the Fediverse. If you are able to self-host, self-host. If you are not, make sure you don't all congregate on a small number of servers, but spread out to smaller servers. This also helps tremendously in spreading out the costs and blast radius when issues arise.
     
     A small Fediverse server for 10-20 people costs about 5 bucks per month. We need more of those. Do your part in making the Fediverse resilient.
